Miska Clay Bibbs

Miska Clay Bibbs is a dedicated public servant, seasoned education advocate, and bold leader with a passion for empowering communities through service. As Chairwoman Emeritus of the Shelby County Board of Commissioners, she was elected to represent District 11 in August 2022 and served her first year as Chairman Pro Tempore. Before that, she spent eight impactful years on the Memphis Shelby County School Board of Education, including two years as Chair.

A proud native Memphian and graduate of White Station High School, Miska earned her B.A. in Marketing from Hampton University and is currently pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Memphis. Her early career included internships at NASA, AutoZone, Archer Malmo, and iconic Memphis stations K-97/WDIA. But it was her return home to help lead a congressional campaign that sparked her commitment to advocacy, education reform, and civic engagement.

Miska has held key leadership roles in Memphis City and Shelby County Schools, as well as national education nonprofits like Teach For America and Teach Plus—merging her expertise in marketing, fundraising, and community development to create lasting impact. Her work has earned her numerous accolades, including the Memphis Business Journal’s “Superwoman in Business,” Tennessee Senate “Women in Leadership” honoree and the Memphis Grizzlies HBCU Empowerment Award, among others.

Active in numerous community boards, Miska is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and The Links, Incorporated (River City, TN Chapter). Above all, she is the proud mother of her son, Langston, a student at Tennessee State University. Her driving purpose is simple yet powerful: to lead with integrity, lift others as she climbs, and leave a legacy rooted in service.
